Waiter frustrated with $3.28 tip. Eyes go wide receiving unexpected letter days later

Since you only have one chance to create a good impression, these teens made every effort after realizing their error.

In Los Angeles, a server was serving four teenagers and making sure they had the best possible evening. Then he got an unsatisfactory tip. The fact that children and others don’t grasp the tradition of leaving a generous tip for hard work dismayed and irritated the waiter.

On social media, he shared his feelings as a server when the teens only gave him a $3.28 tip:

“There is nothing more annoying than when a customer is grinning and giving me a big thank you as they leave and I receive little to nothing in the way of a tip.” Then, however, a really surprising event occurred!

After about a week, he got the following letter:

About a week and a half ago, on October 7, my three friends and I celebrated our own homecoming by dining at this restaurant. Being here by ourselves was a novel experience for us, and it was thrilling.

We couldn’t have asked for a better waiter than you. Not only did you not treat us like babies, but you were also courteous, accommodating, and even able to modify the meal to accommodate all of my allergies! I wanted to express my gratitude for making our “grown-up” experience so enjoyable and wonderful.

Additionally, I want to apologize on behalf of my group. Our 13-year-old brains weren’t quite sure how to handle the bill because we were unfamiliar with everything. When it came to splitting the checkup and taking our less-than-ideal cash, you were really helpful.

Although the price was fair, we had entirely forgotten what a tip was and, to be honest, had no idea how much to leave. Thus, we spent all of our money, which came to $3.28.

We departed without knowing what we had left you for all of your hard work since we didn’t realize how little this actually was.

We felt terrible after realizing our error. We were aware that we needed to correct it.

You will therefore find the appropriate 18% tip in this envelope, plus more for just being outstanding. Thank you for making our evening enjoyable, and we appreciate your assistance and patience. I’m grateful.

The gratuity was $3.28, which is less than four percent of the approximately $100 bill! Fortunately, the teenagers were aware of their error and took care of it properly.

The waiter shared a photo of the letter online with some encouraging and heartfelt remarks:

“I have been serving for a long time, and neither I nor anyone else has ever experienced anything like this. I’m not sure how you became knowledgeable about tipping, but I sincerely appreciate your thoughtfulness and effort. I hope you had an amazing homecoming!

People don’t always go above and above to correct their mistakes, but when they do, it may make a huge difference. This diligent waiter deserves it!
